Family Literacy Month is Coming in November!
Family Literacy Month is coming in November! The Somerville Family Learning Collaborative (SFLC), in collaboration with SomerPromise, is celebrating this year by hanging several StoryWalks© in various locations across Somerville for families to read together. The StoryWalk© Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalks© offer children and adults the chance to get moving outside and explore stories at the same time.
We are delighted to join with the Growing Center in this endeavor. The story boards are hanging on the Vinal Avenue fence near the entrance, and we encourage everyone to remember social distancing as you are looking at the panels.
Gabi Says, “I’m Confused! No School, No Friends” is a social story created by the SFLC about the feelings that can come up for children when daily life is disrupted by the COVID-19 virus. It includes several ideas that can help children when they are having “big feelings” and offers families a chance to talk about their experiences with the pandemic. The text is in three languages, Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
